GETTING
INTO THERAPY IS A VERY SMART THING TO DO IF YOU WANT THE MOST OUT OF LIFE AND
PROBLEMS ARE IN THE WAY
Some people are pretty uncomfortable about getting counseling help. We wish they
were not so hesitant to get help, because it is really smart to come for counseling
or psychotherapy. The healthier you are, the more you will enjoy life and accomplish
those things that are most important to you.
We have both been in psychotherapy. My wife and I had the sense to get an outside
view and help from a fellow professional to make our marriage much better. I'm
glad we did.
Why do people resist getting help? Maybe it is one or more of the following
reasons: -
They do not want to spend the money. This is understandable. It isn't cheap! However,
if people go for therapy and use it, they should, over their lifetimes, make much
more money much, much more than what they paid for the help to become
healthier and more effective persons, as well as able to make more money at a
job.
- They
can only like themselves or feel acceptable to other people if they have no problems,
make no serious mistakes, or at least fool themselves into thinking this. Thus,
they cannot admit their problems. The problem is that we all make a lot of mistakes,
whether we notice or not. We all have problems. I have never met anyone who did
not. When those problems interfere with life, it only makes sense to get help.
- Some
people want to blame someone else for their problems. While it may be true that
others contribute to the bad situation, they still have to successfully deal with
the predicament. Waiting for the one whom they are blaming to make life better
for them is an exercise in futility.
Let me say it again, smart people get help. We see it all the time. The healthiest
partner in a marriage is often the one who seeks help. So, why not be in the smarter
crowd and get help? Do something about those things that trouble you. Life is
too short to wait. |
