The Great Family Conversations Tool Kit helps families talk and have conversations that help children and parents grow in understanding, acceptance, appreciation, relationship and love. Increased family success comes from communication and dialogue about memories, experiences, favorites, wishes and dreams, and feelings. Kids pick up verbal skills to help them succeed everywhere in life.

HOW THE GAME PLAYS:

Families use dice from a game at home and roll them to locate a cell on one of the six game grids.

In the table cell is an item for dialogue communication. Dialogue is one of the safest forms of communication and is fully explained in the 16-page booklet Successful Family Dialogue that comes with the Great Family Conversations Tool Kit. Dialogue is merely asking questions of each other out of curiosity in order to better know and understand one another. It usually involves asking the questions, "Why?" and "What do you mean?"

For example, on the "Getting to Know You" grid pictured above, if a family member rolled a 6 for the vertical axis and a 9 for the horizontal, he would complete the sentence, "I feel most excited when . . . " Other family members would then ask, "Why?" to get to know that person better. Perhaps a few more "why-type" questions would be asked and then another family member would complete the same sentence. After everyone has answered, the next person takes her turn and rolls the dice for another table cell and different topic.

There are 600 dialogue starters in the Great Family Conversations Tool Kit. The family uses the game over months and will talk about many of those 600 things. The family can also use the grids while traveling in the car, standing in line, or during television commercials.
